Interview with Allan Williams

Allan Williams of New Harbour, Newfoundland with the help of Friends of the Earth Canada, is requesting an investigation of PCB contamination at the local waste disposal site under the PCB Regulations of the Canadian Environmental Protection Act . Electrical transformers containing PCBs were dumped there in the 1980s and 90s.

Information That Municipalities Should Bring to Water Soft Path   PDF  Print  E-mail 

 

1. Basic information about the following:

- selected future date that want to work toward (at least 20-50 years out)
- community and water use demand

• Current and projected populations (for selected target date)
• Average and total daily water demand for all relevant sectors in as much detail as is available for residential, industrial, commercial, services (e.g., fire fighting)
• Average daily per capita demand
• Existing water efficiency, sustainability and other relevant plans
• Information about water and wastewater treatment

- water services

• List of all services provided by water for the municipality and an indication of the minimum quality of water for each service

- water sources/systems

• Information about sources and quantity of water (ground, surface) and the state of health (e.g., healthy, overused, stressed, degraded)
•  Estimate of what needs to be reserved for cultural, religious, aesthetic reasons
• Future capacity estimate
• Ecosystem services supplied by existing water resources

2. Copies of water plans already in place or in the works.

3. information on projects and programs involving water conservation, efficiency, education and awareness.

4. Copies of bylaws relating to water efficiency, constraints, conservation and other related issues.

5. List of community groups who could take part in implementation of water soft path plans.
